When I was away in London I pressed the button for the lift. It arrived and a man who seemed to be interviewing people in the lounge barged in front of me, pushed his arm in front of the door to allow his interviewee in, let the door close as I was about to step in and went on his merry way. I was also bullied by a couple of women at the same hotel on a previous stay. To the extent that they walked into me on purpose and walked off laughing. Another time they walked to my table, stared at me for a while and walked away. I am sure these people are in the minority but they get noticed.
While it's certainly true that one can find rude people anywhere, I don't see the connection between rude/polite and business/leisure.
Separately, I can't help but feel that there's more to these stories, particularly the ones about the women.
