For better or worse, the world won’t be standing still if/when AA decides to make any of the moves you described. United is slated to get a bunch of A321 Neos that they will configure in lie flat up front and based on the numbers will not only be able to handle the EWR-SFO/LAX but also add other transcon routes as well. And they have hubs on both coasts to help with feeder traffic if O/D does not completely fill up the plane.
Funny timing because UA just teased their first premium transcon A321neo today- they’re supposed to be getting 40 of them (and these 40 won’t be used for thin transatlantic flights- they have a separate XLR order for that).
Looks like they’ll be calling them “Coastliners”. Is it just me or has AA really fallen behind both DL and UA when it comes to branding? (And I can’t help but point out that “liner” was actually branding the old AA had on their fleet, like the DC-10 LuxuryLiners)
