This is no different to American Airlines AAdvantage winning "best airline program" (or something like that) at the Freddies in the years immediately following that program's destruction around a decade ago. This is what you get when people chose to vote on subjects about which they know very little.

I would be interested to know (and I know that we never will) how many of the people who voted for BAC had any kind of real experience with any of the other programs that were up for the award (other than Virgin FC).

I suspect that this was simply a vote on which program out of BAC and VFC is less bad, because most of the voters, probably, don't have a clue about what any of the other candidate programs offer or how they work.
