We have to use this lame ITN booking engine that doesn't give you access to the fare rules so I am struggling. If I use a stopover of more than 24 hours it downgrades me to Y on the HNL-LAX-PHL segments. I thought most business class fares allowed free or cheap stopovers. Is it true that you only get F seats on the domestic flights if they are connecting to/from an international segment that day without stopovers? Is there a booking strategy I should use so I get to fly domestic F both ways and get a low cost stopover in HNL?

TIA for any advice.
I would call UA or your travel agent. I have never done US Mainland-HNL-NRT-ICN in C, but I have done a couple of SHA/PVG-NRT-HNL-SFO-MIA/IAD as return legs of transpac trips. In both cases, the additional fares were small for paid C. IIRC, they were less than $150, although they were at least a few years back ( when UA operated PVG/SHA-NRT)

I was never able to use United.COM or the old United Connection software to get the right class of seating when adding the the HNL portion to the trips. I ended up visiting the CTO in Shangahi in one instance, and called my travel agent in DC in another to make them work. I did sit in domestic F on the stopover routings.

Hopefully someone can provide a more recent experience.
