Overall, I really like this place.
The conversion of the $20 Ambassador credit is more about a matter of principle for me. I made IHG Diamond from spend well before I reached 40 nights. I am enjoying being in the right region for the current 20% off food and non-alcoholic beverages. That is not a hotel offer. It’s an IHG offer. Maybe the hotel could have opted out participating - then credit to them.
That said, this IC first came on my radar because it’s from the higher end of the IHG portfolio. I read pretty much the whole FT thread to screen the hotel since not all ICs are worth the name. If this hotel was not from the IHG or Marriott portfolio I would not have even considered it as an option until I screened out what my preferred chains had to offer.
So I played my part in the rewards program.
This IC should play fair. $20 USD = 180,000 IDR is shame shame on the hotel management. Cheap.
Again, loved it. Would come back. Just seems to me FTers often boycott hotels that don’t offer elite benefits (or complain a lot). Maybe it is more a Marriott Bonvoy thing. So few reviews of Ritz Carlton hotels because there is no elite breakfast.
Fair enough, but if you really screened the whole thread, you still missed the bits about the 20USD = 180k IDR AMB credit. Over the years I think I mentioned it 2-3 times here, but it's a long thread to be fair

.
AFAIK, the local currency equivalent for the AMB 20USD credit is set by IHG HQ (maybe the AMB program) and not made up by the IC hotels in the location/ country you are staying at. They get an earful on this frequently from guests, but they need to adhere to that.
I have talked to a few GMs, Resort Managers or Director of Rooms at ICs that I stayed / stay at rather frequently or have been a 20+ year return guest like
binman (across Indonesia, Japan, Singapore etc.) and the story has been consistent, so I'm very much inclined to believe them on this. YMMV
