As CWS explains the BA 281 was cancelled today due to technical reasons and the Crew eventually running out of available Duty hours and no sufficient numbers available on either side of the Flight Deck door to replace them, nothing to do with Crew “positioning”. I can’t speak for the AA service.
I actually was in the arrivals hall when those 281 Customers were advised of which baggage reclaim to go to and “to await comms from BA in terms of rebooking or check manage my booking as staff in arrivals can’t assist” assuming that staff in arrivals service are nowadays no more trained in rebooking or not having the resources to deal with a 380 load to rebook.
