If so, that seems like a clear violation of Hilton’s terms. They are not allowed to create blackouts by recategorizing how many rooms are standard from week to week. Folks should put this on Hilton corporate’s radar.
For what it’s worth, I’ve kept a close eye on their availability and even happened to be on the site as they uploaded their room block in Dec. From minute one, there were no standard rooms made available.
They don't even need to reclassify them to base rooms. They can just decide to oversell the base rooms and plan to upgrade some guests, or even preemptively upgrade some guests and base rooms becomes free.
