Served fish in vegan special meal (VGML)
On a flight PEK-AMS in KLM WBC a few weeks ago I pre-ordered the vegetarian-vegan meal (VGML). When my main course was about to be served, the flight attendant warned me that it was a piece of fish (even though it had the VGML label). She mentioned that she'd seen animal products in vegan meals catered from India in the past, but this was the first time for her with China catering. I'm very happy the crew was alert, but this is obviously still problematic. I've reported it to KLM but haven't heard back so far.
In this case I was offered a vegetarian dish from the regular menu as an alternative. It had quite a lot of dairy (which is not great after eating vegan for a couple of years) but definitely better than starving.
Since the crew member mentioned it wasn't her first time his happened, I'm curious if anyone else has had similar experiences?
