The App is usually the first place where to see that your upgrade has cleared. Sometimes they just don't process the ticket. Call or chat to have your ticket updated and ask for a seat assignment at the same time (you cannot assign a seat yourself because the other flight is still waitlisted, which paralyzes the system).
Turns out both flights are still waitlisted according to AY customer service.
Either the app or they are lying to me i guess.
