Last year I was declined for a BofA Customized Cash card because I only had an Amex charge card at the time I think (reasons were “did not have sufficient established revolving credit accounts,” “low credit limits,” etc.). Since August 2025 I have an Amex Bonvoy Brilliant with a USD 25k credit line, very low utilization, and perfect payment history. I have also banked with BoFA for about two years.
My score is around the mid-700s, but my only revolving card is still under a year old. Would you recommend waiting until the Bonvoy card is 9–12 months old before applying, or does the existing BofA banking relationship materially improve approval odds?
Where are you based? If it is convenient for you to visit a Bank of America branch, I would do so and discuss your situation with the branch manager.
