You could argue that by stopping the 40, 140, 210TP etc., they did, not as a direct reason, stop some "tier point runners" from earning fairly cheap status.
I personally tend to lounge hop - no idea if that costs BA say £35 a lounge or what, so a few people could could be costing BA 3 or 4 figures a year that would need to be "enhanced"
If savings can be made, no matter how trivial they seem, BA will probably do it.
