Don't really care about myself, but want to get my elderly parents to experience the aspirational trip if possible. It looks like Emirates is no longer releasing outright award bookings (even up to 300K points) for F class, even for status holders, on popular routes such as this.
I have in the past used cash to upgrade a booking made with Business Reward points. That might be different as it’s not a Skywards booking. But in general I have the impression that they’ll take your hard cash for (almost) anything.
