Personally, I wouldn't count on them allowing you to change the return, especially if you do attempt to fly your originally scheduled flight on Saturday and have things interrupted.

If the return is also an award, you would of course be able to switch for the fare difference.

You may have some luck pleading your case with an agent, especially if you're proactively changing your outbound flight under an AA waiver, and/or they may offer you a goodwill return change, but I wouldn't count on American offering you a free return change on the grounds of weather.
