Another data point with a twist. Had a three legged RNO - PHX - CLT - AVL fight last week. Of course, RNO - PHX had a three hour mechanical delay which broke the trip. Options were keep current itinerary with the PHX - CLT red eye to an early CLT-AVL flight, or rebook RNO-DFW overnight DFW-AVL the next morning.

I was traveling with my wife and adult daughter both of whom weren't real excited about the red eye so we took the DFW layover. Not wanting to deal with whatever hotel AA was going to put us up in plus a van ride at 9:00 pm at night (the CS did confirm we were eligible for a hotel), we booked the Grand Hyatt for what was a pretty low point offering for one room. (10,000 or something). The actual rate was $310 I think.

A couple of days later, I sent a request through Customer Service for a reasonable reimbursement for the hotel. I was honestly expecting like $125. I had to reply to the first computer generated email because it was worthless. However the 2nd email came through better than expected. The email said they could not reimburse for points stays, but they credited all 3 passengers $125 for our troubles. I thought this was more than fair.
