Yes, I get that many other airlines charge for J seat assignments at booking too, but as far as my experience goes, ITA is the only full-service long-haul airline that will charge for seat selection/changes to J seat assignments within the check-in window. Unnecessarily petty IMO.
Seems to be an extension of whatever awful process LHG has rolled out to charge Y pax for changing seats at OLCI. Agree this is a step too far.
