Apparently they monitor what comes back off the flight that is uneaten and unused and it is supposed to help for planning future menus. For example if everyone is ordering the gnudi but not eating it and sending it back, they monitor that and hopefully change or remove it from the menu in the future. A FA and UA management told me that before.
Is this a recent thing?
Based on how things have gone in the past, I’d take this with a grain of salt. I mean if crews can’t even plate/deliver food in a consistent way, are they really going to detail and monitor the eating habits of the passengers?
