Think back to elementary school and that one door in the main hall with the sign, "Teachers Lounge". You wonder what it's like in there and try to peek inside every time a teacher opens the door to come in or out. You know that not everyone is allowed in that room and that feeds your curiosity.

One day, your teacher asks YOU to take this stack of papers to, you guessed it, the Teacher's Lounge.

That is the allure of Channel 9

Once that door closes up front, you stare at it and wonder what goes on inside. Ch. 9 lets you inside that "lounge" and allows you hear what is taking place around you. You know that of all the planes on that runway, only you and a select few are allowed to hear what your pilot, and all the other pilots are saying. You may not be able to see that JAL Heavy, but since you are one of the select few that has been invited to the conversation, you know that it was redirected to the left runway and not the right.

That is the attraction and is what drives many to Ch.9. Some glance over it with an, "Oh, that's neat," attitude. Some take a, "This keeps me informed of my takeoff and landing progress," approach. Some take it to the max with the, "Gotta have Ch. 9 or I'll feel disconnected," need. For whatever reason, Ch. 9 is a treat that is not widely available. If it was everywhere, then it would not have it's allure.
