Although APA are decent hotels at reasonible prices, I now avoid them due to this:

Those 'history books' are an interesting read to say the least.. flipped through one at my first and last stay at an APA hotel, haven't been to one since.
I've always had issues with loyalty programs due to picking hotels based on location + affordability and I may not stay in the same hotel chain/group for years at a time so I don't get too much benefit from joining them.
