I am definitely a Channel 9 junkie. If it is not on when I take my seat, I will ask an FA to "encourage the Captain to turn it on".

Why do I like it so much?

Well, first I am also a news and information junkie (I listen to newstalk on the radio almost exclusively -- KGO, SF), and CH9 is the best (and essentially only) source of current "news & info" about what is happening around me when I am on a flight.

Second, I am a non-current private pilot, so I learned the lingo from my instructors and listening; so now I can vicariously put myself in the position of someone flying the plane I am on, or another plane, even when I am obviously not doing it.

Almost by defintion, CH9 will give you info before the crew does (certainly there are exceptions, but in general that's true.) During a recent mini-blizzard at PHL, listening to ground and ramp controll gave me a much better idea of when we were going to get deiced and the level of chaos and gridlock on the ground. (I know, many people don't want know about chaos.)

In short, CH9 is just fascinating to me, and it (combined with E+) are primarily what have kept me loyal to UA.

To me the allure of CH9 grabbed me from the get-go, and has not let loose.
