I agree. I bought this PE-out, Business-back ticket, fully willing to fly it if an upgrade isn't reasonably available. But if an upgrade does become reasonably available, I'll take that, too. To some degree, I miss the days of air ticket pricing regulation...

Personally I feel like the whole upgrade thing has become a scam, across all airlines. Rarely can one get an upgrade at the time of booking, and often you have to buy more expensive fares just to be eligible for a chance at an upgrade. So I just buy F/J outright and save myself all the stress. I suppose that's what the airlines want, but the flip side is that I am no longer loyal to any carrier, because for any given trip I just book the airline that gives me the best overall value in terms of price, schedule, and service quality. Being a free agent is wonderful.
