Suite upgrades rewards are not available to use at a propèrty that hasn't opened yet.
In my experience many new Andaz and park Hyatts have very very few standard suites available. Most are categorized as premium. In my mind this is their way of making us pay for suites if we want them and not getting upgraded to a standard suite day of.
2 years ago I was very frustrated with this course of events and told the heads. Last year I did a lot of nights but mostly at properties that have ample standard suites or which know me well so upgrade me to specialty suites.
But I am hesitant to go to new properties because I've seen the lack of standard suites being built. Why would I stay at a Hyatt if I don't have a good chance at a suite? Marriott is already this way, and I'm no longer on the hamster wheel there, so why bother requalifying every year at Hyatt.
At other properties the standard suites are what I would consider junior suites without proper division between bedroom and living room - I believe HR Koh Samui, GH Singapore and PH Tokyo are now this way but I'm hearing that Tokyo will upgrade to premium suites with TSU
Why would I accept that as a suite? I had 130 nights last year. I deserve the full benefits.
Marriott got rid of suite language and I stayed one night in a Marriott last yr on a certificate as part of my ongoing protest of Marriott. If Hyatt goes the way of marriott, or my favorite PH property leaves the program, I will go free agent.
