The Air NZ Skycouch is definitely “over-hyped” and isn’t worth paying for!
The marketing material on the Air NZ website (photos) cleverly shows two people (mainly adult and child) sprawled out and having the most comfortable experience ever however it’s nothing of the sort.
The space between seats are minimal and there are literally four different harnesses that must be used every time your child wants to sleep (which are uncomfortable to wear and vigorously enforced)..
Then there’s the ever worsening Air NZ food and
surly staff (although to be fair this is becoming more apparent in every cabin on the plane (gone are the days of cuisine being a major drawcard of Air NZ).
Our advice - either tough it out in regular economy seats without the Skycouch “upgrade” or move up to PE if affordable.
Skycouch - we’ll never use it again…trust me!
I’d have to (respectfully) disagree with you! It has been a life saver for us travelling with infants. An adult sits on the end, and the infant can sprawl out with their head near your lap. Have had multiple overnight long hauls where the kid has slept for most of the flight. To me that’s priceless compared to having a stroppy 1-3 year old acting up for 10+ hours.
If i knew there was no chance of a J upgrade, i’d personally choose a skycouch over PE as well (as a single passenger). I don’t mind having to lie on my side with knees up a little. Actually have had my best plane sleep in a Skycouch.
Also, I can’t remember having four belts either. From memory it was just one that looped around your waist, and through the belt of the middle seat. Has been a while though.
