So: Both Y and PE are oversold, J has 9+ seats, but UA is willing to sell 4 J seats, and 2 PE seats even though PE is full.

Question:

On upgrade list: No.3 is 1K W->PN upgrade using GS PP. No.4 is no-status pax R->PZ using miles.

Who gets the upgrade at the gate? Assuming only one J seats left after both No. 1 and No. 2 cleared to J and both PE and Y are overbooked by 1?

Separately, op-ups may need to run to resolve the oversale, but that is shuffling assignments into inventory that is already blocked (i.e. not into J space). It's rare enough, especially with the multiple lower cabins, that I don't know how it will play out in practice here.

Update: The No.3 person sponsored by GS PP received W->PN upgrade at T-40.

This is Jan. 17 HND-EWR. J is now full. I noticed 6 people got upgraded by comparing the WL.

Interestingly, PE now has 2 seats open. So it's no longer oversold?
