For widebody, it is 1:40 PASSENGERS per our FAM/Transport Canada, on overseas it is all doors manned from the Collective Agreement. So for example, on YUL-YVR on a 788 (255 max passengers) there are only 7 FA's (1SD, 6FA's). If the 788 were doing YUL-LHR, it would need 8 FA's (1SD, 7FA's). However, it can go short crew (to a point), example: an FA falls ill in LHR and they can't find a crew member to replace, it will go out at 1:40.
As well for widebody, long-haul and ultra long-haul, we have some crew augmentation for crew rest. That is all governed by the collective agreement.
For narrowbody, it is 1:50 SEAT UNITS per our FAM/Transport Canada. So for narrowbody, it doesn't matter how many passengers you have, it goes by the actual seats installed.
Curious as to the HR logistics when one uses passengers as a metric. Is the crew scheduled for a full flight and FAs are trimmed if the passenger load is bellow the requirement? If so, how late can an FA be 'cut'? Are we talking the day before, the day of, or even at the airport before boarding?
