I was under the impression that on wide-bodies the minimum FAs was based on 1 per exit door, and not number of PAX like narrow-bodies. Is this rule from collective bargaining?
For widebody, it is 1:40
PASSENGERS per our FAM/Transport Canada, on overseas it is all doors manned from the Collective Agreement. So for example, on YUL-YVR on a 788 (255 max passengers) there are only 7 FA's (1SD, 6FA's). If the 788 were doing YUL-LHR, it would need 8 FA's (1SD, 7FA's). However, it can go short crew (to a point), example: an FA falls ill in LHR and they can't find a crew member to replace, it will go out at 1:40.
As well for widebody, long-haul and ultra long-haul, we have some crew augmentation for crew rest. That is all governed by the collective agreement.
For narrowbody, it is 1:50
SEAT UNITS per our FAM/Transport Canada. So for narrowbody, it doesn't matter how many passengers you have, it goes by the actual seats installed.
