From my interactions with UA over the years with staff in similar situations, UA considers the reason for the request (why the break, why you will resume travel) and historical flying on UA. Possibly the flying on JV partners but even there I have some doubts. Flying on TK or ET is not penalized, but it will not help, either.
This is one of the big misconceptions between DL's and UA's programs, UA privileges consideration for UA metal flyers. For example, to calculate lifetime mileage accruals, UA only counts UA metal whereas DL includes partner flights as well.
