The advantage I'm aware of for KLM flight numbers is you get more Skymiles with the KLM flight numbers which are based on miles flown, while with DL flight numbers the Skymiles are based on dollars spent.
I'm not aware of any advantages to booking under the DL flight number - I suppose the question there is whether the DL reservations people can deal with irrops where my Gold status might get me a DL rep on the phone faster than with KLM where I would not get priority on the phone.
I thought of another reason to book as a DL flight through delta.com rather than KLM. Delta allows free cancellation within 24 hours even if the ticket was bought less than 7 days before departure. I believe that KLM and AF stick to the DOT minimum and do not allow free cancellation within 24 hours when the flight was booked less than 7 days before departure. This is very relevant to my present situation, not 100% sure where I want to go but probably less than 7 days from now.
