I just got back from Mexico City, and I loved it. Only 2 days there, but already want to go back. We stayed at the Hotel Marbella in Roma Norte. Great neighbourhood, mostly quiet residential and lots of medical offices, but peppered with little restaurants and shops.

For seeing the pyramids, we did a balloon flight. Fantastic way to see them. Would highly recommend (despite the 3:30AM wakeup to get to the launch point before dawn).
