That'd be relevant if it had value but it doesn't so the issue is not moot and question still stands. Long complicated story but if it was stolen I wouldn't bother replacing it and it'd cause a day of headaches and workarounds which is a risk I'd be 100% willing to take if the alternative is a risk of being thrown in terrorist holding cell for 20 hours and having it confiscated anyway.. It's a transatlantic flight with three legs with the thing at entering the US where you have to claim your bags then check them all over again and go through a whole second security line.

I may be able to dig up the original box which seems like it could make it looks less threatening in a carry-on but maybe could make it look more like something resellable to something going through the checked bag maybe?
