I flew into NRT by myself twice in 2003. It is easy to navigate (I would recommend looking at the airport layout so you know where to get to catch your ground transporation: http://www.narita-airport.jp/en/ ) Immigration is very easy. I was only asked how long I would be in Japan and what I was doing in the country (I was only there for 10 days each time and was visiting some college friends).
