I really don’t think you can use the U.K. as an example of efficiency or control. The Brexit Mantra was take control of our borders but there really isn’t any!

Some nationalities who use egates are supposed to get a stamp in the U.K. but it poorly policed. Moreover there is no departure immigration checks in the U.K. The UK allows a huge number of nationalities to use egates simply because they don’t have the resources to manage them otherwise. Any sensible nation would have negotiated egate access on a reciprocal basis but that never happened this US citizens waltz through while we queue in the USA unless we are prepared to pay for global entry.

What the EU is doing is securing and controlling its external border. It’s complex as 27 nations are involved to one degree or another. But it’s laudable and it’s not their fault the U.K. flounced off with their ball in an huff.
