while I did end up booking multi-city (as open jaw), the problem exists when booking return.
I was searching DUD-CGK return then AKL-CGK return in order to compare pricing. This is how I noticed the difference.
I guessed that if I forced the issue with Air NZ or asked a TA that something might be possible but instead I just worked around it.
My outbound one-way WLG-AKL-SIN-BKK was booked (mid-2025) in biz J $2650, with the SIN-BKK in Y on SQ under NZ codeshare. This was best SP/$ earn as other options +/- 2 days were $1000 more, so I went with it.
A few month later when re-checking options, I noted that using the multi-city tool and travelling 2 days later, saw the same routing/price but with a TG sector in biz (Z) now available as an option (wasn’t previously). I called and paid the change fee as the additional SPs (and comfort) were more than covered by the $60. Service fee waived as I could not do online.
