We had a great flight back from HND.
I wish they had a buggy service as the plane was parked at the furthest gate. We were flying in the old LP cabin. Two seats were inop so we had the whole cabin for ourselves (unfortunately not next to eachother).

My thoughts compared to JAL F:
  • Ground service/experience: AF > JL. AF is miles ahead, there is nothing special on JL (and they use the AF business lounge at CDG)
  • Seat: JL > AF. The JL F seat is exceptional. It's wider than usual cabins (only 3 accross) which is really amazing. The screen is huge and the tablet is responsive (compared to the new LP...). Love the ability to order food from the tablet.
  • Bed: AF > JL. AF bedding and bed comfort is superior to JL. The JL bed is quite stiff, even if you take the "soft" option when offered. Additionally, the JL cabin runs a bit too warm which doesn't help sleep.
  • Food: AF > JL. I think this one is personal and I can see why most people would disagree, but we had a terrible time with the food on JL. JL's meals are for sure more sophisticated, but both the japanese and western menu on JL were similar (lots of seafood) and we preferred the more western food on AF.
  • Drinks: JL > AF. The Salon is wonderful.

Overall I think the AF LP product is marginally better (at least to my taste!).
