I would still do MetroBus when we eventually go back (my new job has conflicted me out of the time of year we used to regularly go), but as someone who sometimes rides public transit too much when traveling, I did find the value proposition of rideshare in Mexico City to be very high.
The value proposition is very high. Getting a car in extremely crowded areas where traffic isn't moving can be challenging. Traveling through some seriously traffic laden areas can be more than challenging. And finding a car that doesn't break down (only happened once) or that doesn't seem like it is going to break down with a regular Uber X, well, can be challenging. I usually "splurge" for a more premium car, which is only a pittance more. Another N.B. is if you have luggage of note, get a bigger car. I've been in some that wouldn't hold a very large suitcase.
