The odd numbered center pairs certainly make sense for a couple. But the even numbered? They might be better off getting two seats across an aisle.
I don’t see how two seats across an aisle would make anymore sense.
If they are even row, then they would still be facing the aisle with the added inconvenience of reaching across the aisle or talking loudly. If they are in an odd row, since the window seat is close to the fuselage and the center seat is away from the aisle, it would be like two walls separating them.
