I think based on the comments about the short time to collect bags etc, the small added cost of booking the Vueling flight is worth it. 20 mins extra plus the time saved on the monorail is enough to give me some breathing space. Plus, Vueling have a number of later flights so it may be easier for them to accomodate if we don't make the first one?
If you don't make the first one on your own separate ticket connections Vueling aren't obliged to accommodate you on a later flight. That's not to say they won't out of goodwill, but they don't have to without you buying another ticket.
