I didn't know the ToC in detail, but I guess there is a section which allows to cancel reservations when guests also can cancel them. And as you didn't buy a package of flight + hotel, the flight is up to your risk. So, the best strategy is indeed to try to get a comparable room somewhere else. Potentially with the help of a lawyer.
Agree. Also completely unacceptable for the resort not to reach out in a timely manner and present reasonable options, but again management at the resort uses the resort as there own personal oasis...
