Good information, thanks for sharing 777 global mile hound

I'll share some tidbits of my own, as I have direct experience with staying at properties managed both by Daniel the GM and Andaz Maui GM. To be clear, this would be back when Daniel was managing the Manchester GH San Diego and when the Andaz Maui GM was managing the Andaz Maui.

I had gone to Andaz Maui for a special occasion (cash rate). The FD staff was also pretty disorganized and partly adversarial, which was surprising, though I distinctly recall the valet staff being incredibly friendly and nice. They also refused to upgrade us to anything, not even an ocean view king bed (was Globalist). I think they quoted me a charge of something ridiculous, like $300/night, for an upgrade to the ocean view king or something, much less a suite. No welcome basket or anything left in the room either. As far as ultra-luxury resort/destination properties went (with the price tag that it had), I remember feeling like it was a huge letdown for a Hyatt. The property itself (room, pools, etc) was gorgeous, though. I decided to not fixate too much on the softer things because we were there for a special occasion and I didn't want to let these things ruin that. I later heard that the Andaz Maui GM was notorious for treating loyal customers like a nuisance, so that explained a lot. It also made me think that for future trips to Hawaii on cash stays I will go with other brands (no reason to stay loyal to Hyatt if the loyalty isn't reciprocal)

I also went to the Manchester GH San Diego for a few days and was promptly upgraded to I believe the Penthouse Suite? Didn't need to ask, wasn't a special occasion, nothing. I think they had low occupancy and they just wanted to treat their guests right. It was... amazing. I was SO grateful that I felt obligated to leave as much tips (for housekeeping, for the FD, etc) as possible. It was also the experience which reaffirmed me to talk up Hyatt as a brand to a few of my friends who travel a bit, since it was that special of an experience.

As a more recent example, I gifted a Guest of Honor to some friends for a stay at the Manchester Grand Hyatt SD (with the Andaz Maui GM at the helm). And though the property had some suites available, they were only upgraded up like... 1 category? Just two anecdotal pieces of data, but it tells me that I should temper future expectations for stays at the Manchester GH SD. If I keep hearing more negative things about the Manchester Grand Hyatt SD before I have a chance to return, perhaps I'll direct my business elsewhere (either to the other Hyatt properties in San Diego or to other brands entirely)
