When operational upgrades are required there is a pecking order of passenger-candidates. Civic dignitaries, politicians and TK friends&family may trump the ordained order, especially when selection is locally controlled.
I was trumped before by a regular *G while being Elite. Luckily I have friends at TK that tell me what happened at boarding time. I wish TK had the priority list for upgrade transparently publisjed in the app like Delta does. Also wish they offerend the hard product only upgrade (no food no amenities) at all time complimentary when seats are free. That would not cost them anything bit would attract more pax
