I'm not looking to defend AC, but these things are not necessarily in conflict. If the crew was due to operate a turn at CUN, they may have run out of time to complete their YYZ-CUN-YYZ/YUL/YVR but still had enough duty time remaining to fly the much shorter YYZ-TPA turn.

It might have been better for Mrs. expert7700 if they had just flown the YYZ-CUN leg and cancelled the return, but the people who were due to fly CUN-YYZ or whatever probably were much happier leaving another hour later than having to scramble for hotel rooms and such.
