OK, so it seems to be a systemwide SW update. Should one just avoid traveling on this date on UA (given how SW updates usually go)? Unfortunately, in the winter, UA does not fly Tu/Th out of KIX, so avoiding Wed (2/4) means two days. Interestingly, the inbound aircraft (UA35 on 2/3) leaves on time, so they are going to park the plane at the gate for an extra 4h25m while everything reboots....
