Or they're going to replace a 789 with two of these, reducing pod count by 2.
Or they're going to throw it on an entirely new route, which "adds 14 pods that weren't there the day before", but doesn't make the existing experience better or cheaper for anyone flying existing routes.
We will all see how this plays out in time, and everyone is entitled their own opinion based on their experiences and preferences. Some of mine are
- replacing a 7M8 - music to my ears as I'd just as soon fly in a Y exit row on one of those for 4 or 5 hours as in J - just my opinion but I find the delta to be de minimis between the two
- the WB's flown on YYZ - YVR generally carry on to do TPAC's so the likelihood of them getting replaced by an XLR is unlikely - more likely they replace an existing mid-day 7M8 or 321 - the WB's usually fly the early morning and evening slots and those aren't going to change, so any XLR in the middle of the day is a net add of PODS for me on the routes I care about
- I don't necessarily subscribe to the whole J/Y ratio analysis as there are so many variables to that and I will likely be higher on the list than 90%+ of those booked in Y, or I can use the free SDC on a Comfort fare to improve my chances of being on the aircraft I prefer with the J product I prefer. I know, I know, if all the J seats are sold then there are no J seats to be had, but I don't see that it seems as much as you appear to out of SFO. That said, I'd take my shot at one 14 J PODs any day if that was all they flew on the route over the steady diet of 7M8's, 321's and 223's that you seem to get today.
- I also prefer PODS that face the aisle and don't get a ton of utility from looking out over the fly-over Provinces for hours on end, so I guess I'm an outlier to many here. Personally, I'd prefer to look out than feel like I've got someone behind me looking over my shoulder, but again, just personal preference I suppose.
Now, all of that said, until I fly one I won't even know if I like the product, I may hate it as much as I hate the A330 'honey I shrunk the PODS' experience.
