Maybe OP was confused that the line was actually to put your names on the waitlist, not to enter the buffet. By my observation, people erroneously lined up their entire party when they only needed to line up one person to put the party on the list. it made the line/wait appear much longer than necessary.
We found staff to be friendly and helpful at all interactions and had a delightful stay.
Glad you had a better stay than I did. When I see a hundred people in line for a restaurant hostess, I am not going to wait as well And if I did and discovered that the line was just to be entered on a waitlist, I would not be a happy camper.. Even if the second wait was short, it still isn't the service level I expect. And this was after asking if I needed to make a breakfast reservation on check-in and being assured it was not.
But what's done is done, unless there are further comments directed at me, I'll stop posting on this stay.
