Unless you are flying latitude fares or J, $12,500 of spend is a lot of flights just for 50K status. It’s only $457 of fare (not including taxes / fee) YYC to YYZ return (just chose random date in January). So to get to $12,500 that would be 27 return trips in flex to quality for 50K without the other SQC acrual earnings. That’s a lot of the back of the plane. I don’t see it… Twice that many trips or at least weekly cross country flights in flex to get to 100K. You need to be spending big money on full fare, PE or J tickets to get to 100K without travelling that much.
Another clever downgrade they have done is to dole out the e-upgrade credits throughout the earnings period. So if you thought, 50K lifetime was great for the e-upgrade credits, well, only if you continue to fly sufficient to accrue the credits throughout the year. It definitely cheapens the 50K lifetime value. I’m sure more changes till come down the road and none of them will make 50K more valuable.
