Yeah, I used a companion cert to HNL last month and we had a 5-hour layover at LAX. However, that was a rebooked routing after our original booking had a schedule change (and I used a phone agent to rebook), I'm not sure if that particular routing was available originally through the website or not (my guess is that what agents will actually do and what the IT system thinks is legal may have a wide discrepancy).
