I'm a long-term platinum card member but had never used the FHR credits in the past because we typically stay at our MVC timeshares or use Bonvoy or Hilton properties. Now when I use the same link on their website there are very few options for most of the destinations I am considering. When I check Charlottesville, only one hotel was listed. I have two questions:
1. What types of hotels are included in the FHR Amex credit program?
2. Did the Amex website FHR link have a glitch at that time and include hotels that didn't participate in this program?
1. It's not about the type of hotel (most are usually to the higher end), but about the hotel being a participant of the program. All hotels that participate will trigger the credit
2. There isn't any glitch. The list of hotels that show up when you do a search are just all the hotels that are bookable via Amex Travel, not just the ones that participate in FHR/THC. You can easily filter to see only FHR/THC hotels by checking that off in the filter options.
FHR and THC (the latter only being available for 2+ night searches) will normally be the top results and have a banner labeling them as such so that you can clearly see which hotels are part of the program and will trigger the $300 credit.
When doing a 2 night search in Charlottesville there's just 1 FHR hotel and 2 THC with all 3 displaying their corresponding banners (just showing you 1 example of each so you know what to look for).
