These hotels were my second home so I spent a lot of time and tried to save money with lounge food. Some small details might have changed but just wanted to provide a overview:
- Sheraton Suites: the closest to ORD, walkable from the MMF/rental car building. The option to get to the airport without a shuttle is nice, but sometimes impractical in the snow, there's also not a sidewalk the whole way (although the road is quiet). The shuttle is reliable FWIW. Really spacious rooms, if maybe a little basic. Solid breakfast offering. The evening lounge offering was honestly pretty good, usually 2 basic but filling hot options (think pizza, chicken tenders, nachos, quesadillas), along with a meat/cheese board, the usual self stable snacks and a dessert (they even had tiramisu once). This one is the best for a true short airport stay IMO.
- Renaissance Suites: stayed here the most. Shuttle only ran every 45 minutes, but it is a super short 2 minute walk (sidewalk + elevator) to the Cumberland CTA station. So if you don't want to take the shuttle, it's only $2.50 and 2 stops on the train. Also convenient if you want to make a little trip into the city. The rooms are showing their age a bit, but have a sorta unique layout and are really spacious. The staff here is great and they have a surprisingly nice fitness center with sauna. My only complaint is the lounge was honestly pretty poor, breakfast was average but the evening was usually just 1-2 types of cheese, crackers and a single hot option. Sometimes the hot option was something like fried green beans or zucchini lol. Sorta depressing/awkward vibe in the lounge too...but I have a soft spot for this hotel. Got an upgrade to a massive corner suite on my last stay here.
- Marriott O'Hare (not Suites): the other side of the Cumberland bridge as the Renaissance, maybe a slightly longer walk. This is was not my favorite property, it's kept up okay but the rooms are very dated and have closed off balconies. The lounge offering was better than the Renaissance but not by much. On the bright side the staff here is wonderful.
- Aloft: honestly really liked this property. It's a very standard Aloft so you know what to expect there, but I liked that it was walkable to a lot of the restaurants and the outlet mall in Rosemont. The shuttle was always reliable and runs 24 hours though it is on demand certain hours so I would check. Offers $25 credit for breakfast in the lobby window which goes pretty far. I liked this one when I needed to be at the airport super early or wanted to walk outside the hotel for food. Nice little outdoor courtyard too.
- Westin: probably the best rooms out of all the O'Hare properties, but there wasn't any lounge. I like this one but it wasn't walkable to any transit so I didn't stay here much.
- Residence Inn/Fairfield: both located in a strip mall near Allstate Arena. Would definitely recommend the Fairfield over the RI, the Residence is the old style where you have to walk outside to get to the rooms buildings. The rooms were fine but the property/hallways definitely has a weird and sorta run down vibe. The Fairfield is a relative new build and pretty standard with other new FIs. Both of these are nice for being able to walk to chain restaurants and Target if needed.
Thanks for a great write-up. 👏
If I may ask please which of these offers the best value for long term parking?
We are the type that just want a decent room for an overnight before a flight.
