I have some miles expiring in my family member account, part of my mileage pool. Some miles expire in a few days, another 3000 at the end of March. If I use miles to pay for "compensation" for my account, will it use all these expiring miles from my mileage pool, like it normally does if I book an award flight? I think the pooled miles are just a "pool" and they are individually tracked across members of the family. So each member miles would be governed by their own expiration, e.g. you while holding a status have them frozen while your other 1/2 would have them on a regular expiration ticker if he/she doesn't hold a status / credit card.
When you book an award flight - the miles will be deduced from the pool in the ratio of the individual members, so no equally nor FIFO, unless that changed over the years.
