By Gold Coast Resort are you referring to the Marriott Surfer's Paradise? I stayed here a couple of years ago. Very nice place -- a modern property with lots of space and comfort. The pool was nice. Received a significant room upgrade as a silver MR member. With the price I was paying (with the exchange rate at the time) and the upgrade, I really felt like I was living it up during my stay. The staff was also very helpful when I needed a quiet place to take a 4 AM conference call back to the US.

Only downside is that you are a little removed from the beach and the main drag of Surfer's Paradise. But you can take a nice long walk to get a feel for the area and then cheap cabs from then on.
