No, you are not misunderstanding how FHR works, but you are misunderstanding how SLH works with HH.
SLH is not a Hilton hotel, it's just a marketing partnership. You get HH points and benefits if you book through Hilton. You don't even get those benefits if you book direct with the hotel.
This is similar to how MMS works with Hyatt,
